Terms of use

1. Who you are contracting with
The Good Retreat is operated by Sonny Phillips as an individual based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us") — not, at present, as a registered sole trader business. Your agreement is therefore with Sonny Phillips personally. By creating an account you agree to these terms. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction — though if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings there.
2. Membership
- You must be 13 or over to hold an account.
- One account per person. Keep your password to yourself.
- The service is free. If we ever introduce paid features we will tell you first.
- You can close your account at any time from your settings.
3. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you post. By posting publicly you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display and distribute that content on the service, in leaderboards, and in ceremony materials, for as long as you keep it posted. Delete the content or your account and that licence ends, apart from copies in backups and moderation records described in our privacy notice.
You promise that what you post is truthful, is yours to post, does not identify other people without their agreement, and does not break the law.
4. Rules of behaviour
Our community guidelines form part of these terms. In short: no abuse, no hate, no harassment, no fabricated deeds, no vote manipulation, no advertising, no soliciting money or donations from members, and nothing illegal.
The posting rules in those guidelines apply to every upload. By posting you warrant that you have the clear consent of every identifiable person featured in your text, photos, video or audio (and, for anyone under 18, the written permission of their parent or guardian), that the deed is genuine, and that the content is suitable for members aged 13 and over. Anyone featured may ask us to remove the content, and we will do so.
5. Moderation and removal
We may hide or delete content and suspend or close accounts that break these terms. Where we take action against you we will tell you why and give you a way to appeal by emailing us, unless we are prevented by law from doing so. Anyone can report content using the Report button; we aim to review reports within 48 hours.
6. Awards
Awards are recognition only. There is no cash, no prize of monetary value, and no purchase or payment is involved — so the awards are not a prize draw or lottery under the Gambling Act 2005. Winners are determined by member votes and confirmed by a moderator. We may set aside a deed that appears fabricated, has been reported, or has benefited from vote manipulation. Our decision on awards is final.
7. What we don't promise
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill, but we do not verify the truth of members' posts and we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Content on the service is not advice — do not rely on it for safeguarding, legal, medical or financial decisions. If you meet other members in person or take part in a project, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety and insurance.
8. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Otherwise, and because the service is provided free of charge, we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of opportunity, or indirect or consequential loss.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will give at least 14 days' notice in the app or by email. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
10. Complaints
Email admin@thegoodretreat.app and we will reply within 14 days. If we cannot resolve things between us, you may be able to use an alternative dispute resolution provider or take the matter to court.
